MONTROSE TO INVERBERVIE

Today was the first of a planned, two day trip with an overnight stay in Inverbervie.
We travelled by train from Edinburgh to Montrose and made our way through the town to the sea front near the caravan site. Looking south we could see the lighthouse at Scurdie Ness which we had passed on our last days walk. It was a lovely sunny morning as we made our way along the beach out of the town past the golf courses to the dunes where the North Esk River flows into the sea. Unable to cross we cut inland passing a building where fishing nets are repaired and stored then followed a path along the south bank of the river. We crossed on the disused railway bridge and joined the minor road back along the north side past Nether Warburton to the lovely beach at St.Cyrus Nature Reserve. From here we used the clearly visible path back up to the clifftops where we stopped for lunch, admiring the fabulous views. We followed the declining path, returning to sea level at Tangleha and then on past the caravan site to the lovely fishing village of Johnhaven. Our route from here was a combination of obvious, well worn path and disused railway line all the way to Gourdon where we stopped for a much needed cold beer in the Harbour Bar. A short 1.5 mile walk on a clear path from Johnhaven, past Horse Crook Bay to Bervie Bay and we reached our overnight stay destination at the Crown Hotel in Inverbervie.
Summary;. Mainly flat with good underfoot conditions. Map required.
